FOOD PHOTO TOURNAMENT
Summer Magazine 2025
Welcome to our Food Photo Tournament in March 2025 - creating our 8th issue of the magazine of the Members' Club!
Your assignment
Your task (as a team or individual contributor) will be to create magazine pages - including content creation (including photography and text), creating the layout & design of your pages. After creating your pages, we will put it all together and publish the online magazine to the public.

Watch the video to learn about the requirements for the magazine pages and how you can collaborate in a team to complete your assignment. *correction: individuals create from 2 to 3 pages.
Then, each team and individual contributor can follow these steps

Step 1 - planning & content creation
In this phase, you receive a topic of your assignment - so you can plan and discuss with your team the topic and content you want to create. Divide the roles within your team, create a mood board and shot list and remember following the requirements of the project.

step 2 - design & layout
Once the content if finalised and ready, you can access your templates in canva and design the content there directly. In Canva, you can create any kind of layout you want. You are free to design your pages the way you prefer.
Please, use the document below when creating your pages.

step 3 - photography
After your layout in Canva is drafted and agreed upon, you can use it for creating images for your pages. You can download the layout as a PNG with the transparent background and use this layout while tethering.
If you have never tethered, please, access this course inside our Members' Club.

step 4 - put it all together
At this stage, it's time to put it all together and finalize your pages. You can upload them to Canva and add them to your template. Once it's ready, please give me the permission to access and edit your template, so I can copy all images & text into our final magazine after.
If you have any additional content for the final magazine (such as extra images), please, upload them to the canva document you used to design your pages.

step 5 - live presentation
As a team, or individual contributors, you will present your project and tell us more about what you created. Each team & individual contributor will have about 10 minutes to speak about your magazine pages.
See the schedule of the live events below. If you can't attend live, the replay of the call will be saved in the Club after. I would ask at least 1 member of each team be present on the call, to present your pages.
Each team creates a photography content: 1 final photo of the topic (assigned in the forum) and 1 BTS shot (taken by mobile is ok too:)
Your task is to design 1-2 pages, with all these details about the final image:
You don't need to develop a recipe, feel free to credit any other creator.
This is one double page - you need to create a horizontal image, that will be spread on 2 individual pages. So, that means, your left half and right half of the horizontal image must be working perfectly individually too.
As a team, you get to create a recipe, which will be captured in one horizontal image, that will create a double page in the magazine. See the examples below.

Your horizontal image must include the negative space in the first half. This space will be used for the text. Please, see some examples here:

The other requirement is to include some creative element in one of your images. It can be made in photoshop, it can be a graphic added during the editing, or anything else that you can think of. You can see a few examples here:



The Food Photo Tournament might take about 1,5-2 hours. You can see the schedule of games & activities we will go through.
We will go through the presentation of the teams and individuals. I will share them on my screen and the team will have 10 minutes to talk about what they were creating. After the second event, voting will be open for 1 week. The categories will be: Layout, Content, Photography, Overall category.
DDL FOR DELIVERING FINAL PAGES - 1 DAY BEFORE THE LIVE PRESENTATION
After the presentations of teams, we will play a game :)
Susi will also share her insights about your assignments and how she evaluated your work based on the requirements.
After the live call with Susi, we will announce winners of the Tournament. A team & invididual contributor who collects the most points inside the "Averall category "+ points from Susi = will win the first place. Team will be featured on the cover.
We will do an interview with the winners (TEAMS & individual contributor) - featuring your blogs, recipes, photography and services you provide.
This is a great opportunity to get visibility about your freebies, services, products you offer to the public. This is available to every member of the Club.
This is a great opportunity to develop a professional relationship with a location - bar or restaurant you wish to work with. You can contact your dream client, take a few images of the location, write a bit about them, and we will feature them in our magazine. This is available to every member of the Club.
